Winter is Coming

…to Ada Ciganlija.

A winter stroll on Belgrade's Ada CiganlijaWell, ok, maybe “winter is coming” is a bit dramatic (especially considering the fine weather Belgrade is enjoying) but the first signs are definitely there.

The main sign is the closing of the summer swimming season at Ada Ciganlija. The final (official) day of government sanctioned swimming was actually on Friday but people still made use of the weekend sunshine to go for a quick dip.

From now on, however, swimmers face a potential fine – a draconian sounding measure that is designed to protect the safety of bathers in the absence of lifeguards who operate only during the summer season.

Swans stopping off at Belgrade's Ada Ciganlija on their winter migrationThat doesn’t mean Ada Ciganlija is suddenly no longer worth visiting – cycling, roller-blading and all kinds of other sports and activities will still draw crowds, especially in sunny weather. Furthermore, on fresh winter days, when the sun peeks out from behind dour clouds and when swans pass through on their migration south, Ada can be a magical place for an afternoon stroll.

About Us:
We live in Belgrade and have always wanted to share what this wonderful city has to offer to its visitors and to those who live and work here. That was what inspired us to create the Living in Belgrade website and community back in 2010. Since then the site has grown and undergone many improvements and with it the community of followers who use social media to get in touch with us and with each other. In short, we want to build on the successes of Living in Belgrade and continue to be a good neighbour and host to people who come to Belgrade from abroad.
Our Community:
Living in Belgrade is an English language website, the focus of a broad English-speaking online community who live and work in Belgrade or visit frequently on business, for pleasure or to catch up on some shopping. Our aim is to help them get the most out of their Belgrade experience and to ensure Belgrade is a place they’ll remember fondly and to which they’ll return again and again.
