Ciglana is not so much a bar or a club as a post-industrial landscape – and in two senses of that term. The first being the one we usually think of, a disused industrial facility, taken over by people who want to put it to another use. The second is about the way Ciglana operates, as a post-modern artists’ collective – where there had previously been a workers’ collective – acting as a reflection of Belgrade’s post-industrial society.
All that and it’s also a wonderfully relaxing place to hang out and have a beer.
Ciglana’s location outside the city centre also gives the Belgrade-weary a sense that they’re getting away from it all… without having to go to all the trouble of actually getting away from it all.
Well worth the drive or cab there (and back) – definitely check this place out!
