The Great Adventure of 17in24 starts from Belgrade

The Great Adventure of 17in24 starts from Belgrade As the stitches holding together the greater part of the European Union appear to be unravelling, four intrepid friends living in Belgrade are determined to bring it back together by weaving their way across Europe.

The trip started as a very simple idea: "we love to travel, we are in Europe, let's see a bit of it ... and in fact, let's see quite a bit of it, all at the same time".

With two statisticians in the group, a simple idea somehow evolved into a "record breaking" idea... and "17in24" was born.

In theory it is still very simple: one car, four friends, 17 countries, 24 hours.

Over the last few months the idea has developed into an actual "roadtrip" and we have realised that we need oh so much more than a car and some great driving. What would a record-breaking roadtrip be without a great music playlist, a munchie-menu, a road-cam, even a car-cam might be nice, GPS tracking ... and heck, why stop there... why not a website and t-shirts to top it all off???!!!

The purpose of the journey is to have fun. Breaking a record will be a bonus. We will also be travelling across with a cheery message - we are all so close, we are all connected, and this trip just goes to show that nothing is too far away or unreachable when people have the will to achieve something, and to make a connection.

Isn't it time for a fun, good-news story amidst all this doom and gloom?

Fast facts:

  • The team of four consists of a Swede (Lotti), a Dutchman (Yvo), and two Aussies (Todd & Philo)
  • There is nowhere else in the world that you can cross 17 counties in 24 hours!
  • Departing Belgrade at approximately 16.00hrs on Friday, 01 June
  • Returning Belgrade Monday, 04 June at approximately 19.00hrs
  • The route 17in24 will take is: Bosnia - Croatia - Serbia - Hungary - Romania - Hungary - Slovakia - Czech Republic - Austria - Slovenia - Austria - Italy - Austria - Germany - Austria - Liechtenstein - Switzerland - France - Luxembourg - Belgium - Netherlands
  • In a 24-hour period the trip will cover 2640 kilometres and will cross three borders
  • No time to stop for food... so our "munchie-menu" will include pre-prepared Australian "Anzac Biscuits", risotto cakes, savoury muffins and even rucola and parmesan salad
  • We are very happy to take onboard any suggestions for a music playlist - 24 hours is a lot of songs - but Eurovision will no doubt make up a big part of the selection.
